You've probably heard a lot about what Rotary does for the community and that you should come for lunch, but you might not be clear on what exactly we do and why we do it. What is the Rotary Philosophy? Why do we gather together for fellowship?
Rotary (also known as the Rotary Club) is a service club whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. It is a secular organization open to all persons regardless of race, colour, creed, religion, gender, or political preference. There are 34,282 clubs and over 1.2 million members worldwide. The members of Rotary Clubs are known as Rotarians. Members usually meet weekly for breakfast, lunch or dinner, which is a social event as well as an opportunity to organize work on their service goals.
Rotary's primary motto is "Service above Self"
So, what's a service club?
A service club or service organization is a voluntary non-profit organization where members meet regularly to perform charitable works either by direct hands-on efforts or by raising money for other organizations. A service club is defined first by its service mission. Second its membership benefits, such as social occasions, networking, and personal growth opportunities encourage involvement.
